Can anybody give me a review of this .45 handgun?

I am getting ready to enter a police academy and need advice on which handgun to purchase. I don't want a revolver and don't have a fortune to spend. $300 or so. I don't want to buy a hi-point because of bad reviews, but I can not afford a Taurus, because they are almost $500. What is a good in between gun. Oh, 9mm or .380

Im fairly familiar with handguns, used them im the past but Ive been looking at purchasing one for myself. Mainly be for home defense and to take to the range from time to time, Ive been interested in the Glock 19, only thing holding holding me back is price, im trying to find a suitable alternative for around $400 or less and have been looking at the S&W Sigmas and the Taurus 24/7. Ive heard mixed reviews on the Sigmas from very reliable to not at all and almost everyone says they have a hard trigger pull, on the 24/7s Ive heard mostly good things except there is a common problem with the safety, any advice? Knowing me I'll probably end up just coughing up the extra couple hundred bucks and go with the glock but how do these 2 stack up against the Glock as far as reliability, ease of use and maintenance?

I would like to hear from anyone who owns a taurus model 92 handgun. I am interested in purchasing one and would like some reviews. Thanks for your time.

Well this is the gun i chose to be my first starter gun that is actually a good defensive round. I have been using a .22 and learned many good habits with it. Now i choose the .40 to take me into the Good rounds like 45 40 and 9 i plan on buying some more handguns like the XD, M&P, and a 1911 down the road.

So was this a good choice any little reviews you can give me if you have it or know about it or your opinions on it? please no taurus bashers. i am fully aware of your arguements and they do not phase me so please just some good answers/.....

well thank you all...

I am considering a Taurus PT model .45 caliber or a S&W Sigma .40 caliber. Do you have any suggestions or review of these guns? I already have a Ruger 9mm and want a different caliber.
I should clairfy that I am interested in either the Tauraus PT745C (6 rounds) or PT145 (10 rounds). This is in .45 caliber. The S&W sigma I am considering is a .40.

The Taurus 6 rounds is $329 and the 10 round is $349. The Sigma is around $350.
